CONSTITUTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE

ARTICLE 1
The Greek School operates in Glasgow according to the provisions of the constitution of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Gt. Britain, bearing the name of the Cathedral it operates under.  The name of the School is "St. Luke's Greek School of Glasgow".

The School belongs to and is managed by the local community of St. Luke the Evangelist and it is by default member of the Central Educational Council (KES) of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Gt. Britain, following its directives and regulations.

ARTICLE 2
The aims of the Greek School of Glasgow, are:
The teaching of the Greek language and history.
The education of Greek children within the provisions of the Greek Orthodox civilisation and culture.
The preparation of children of Greek origin to participate actively and equally in the life and normal activities as citizens of the United Kingdom.

ARTICLE 3
The parents of children who are enrolled in the Greek School of Glasgow elect their representatives in the School Committee, during a specially convened General Meeting.  The number of representatives is defined in article 4.

ARTICLE 4
The Greek School is governed by the School Committee which comprises the following nine members:
* Five members who are elected by the parents every two years
during a specially convened General Meeting (see article 3).
* Two of those elected can belong to any other Orthodox religion
other than the Greek Orthodox.  Such members may not serve for more than two consecutive terms, i.e. a total of four years.
* The Priest in Charge, as an ex-officio member.
   * The School Director, as an ex-officio member.
* Two members which are elected by the Community Council
among members of the community who have an interest in
promoting the aims of the Greek School.

Members elect among themselves their officer bearers, during their first meeting, which is convened with the responsibility of the School Director.  Office bearers are the Chair, the Vice-Chair, the Secretary and the Treasurer.  The ex-officio members, as listed in (b) and (c) above, cannot be elected to any office of the School Committee.

The elected Chair represents the School Committee in the
Community Council and attends, after invitation, the meetings of the latter whenever its agenda includes items relevant to the School.  Such items are discussed first, so that the Chair can depart and allow the Community Council to continue with its scheduled business.
The Chair can only be elected among the Greek Orthodox
members of the School Committee, as expressly implied by
article 3 above.
The number of representatives in the School Committee may be amended by the Community Council, if community and School needs dictate so.
